Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) English Movie Review:

This one was a treat to watch as if a comic book had come to life on screen. The animation was amazing with a well written story. I have grown up watching the amazing spider man animated series on TV and this one made me feel nostalgic.

The story is about Miles Morales who is bitten by a radioactive spider, thus giving him the super powers. Then he meets the Spider-Man (Peter Parker) who is killed by the villian Kingoin. While everyone is mouring the death of Spider-Man, Peter Parker from another dimension lands here. So,do the other Spidey characters from other dimensions as well. They all team up to fight the villian. Also they help in making Miles the new Spider-Man.

With great power comes great responsibility and we all can be heroes. This is the idea behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

I recommend to see this movie with entire family and enjoy! My rating is 4.5/5.

Thadam (2019) Tamil Movie Review:

This one is an interesting thriller which is unpredictable until the climax, which is rare thing in most movies that I have seen. The movie has a simple plot or storyline. However, it is the treatment that makes it different. The last movie i remember seeing Arun Vijay was in Kuttram 23, another well made thriller.

The best thing about this movie is its gripping screenplay that keeps one on edge of their seat for most part of the movie, especially second half. A rich young man is brutally murdered in his apartment with virtually no evidence to tie back to the killer. A selfie that shows Arun Vijay in the background comes as a much needed rescue to the police. Inspector Gopalakrishnan (Fefsi Vijayan), who has a score to settle with Ezhil, picks him up in no time. However, the plot becomes complicated from here onwards. Three women play the lead in this movie,

Tanya Hope and Smruthi Venkat have limited screen presence. However, they leave their mark. While Vidya Pradeep plays a cop and she makes best use of her screen space. Sonia Agarwal is a single mother and a gambling addict in the flashback. Magizh Thirumeni does a good job as the director of this gripping thriller.

Thank you Sunil Kumar S for recommending this thriller to me!

My rating is 4/5. Highly recommended!

Sanju(2018) Hindi Movie Review:

Finally, got to see the movie.Somehow, had avoided it for so long. The best part of the movie is Ranbir playing Sanjay Dutt and he goes under the skin of the character literally. Perhaps, his best act todate. However, I felt there could have been a better choice than Paresh Rawal playing Sanjay Dutt’s father Sunil Dutt. It is just my thought. Manisha Koirala as Sanju’s mother was good and though her role was brief it was touchy. Sonam Kapoor Dia Mirza and Anushka Sharma’s roles are short, but interesting.

Vicky Kaushal as Sanju’s best friend leaves a mark. Not sure how far this character was true in Sanjay Dutt’s life? Basically the bio pic picks some crucial chapters from Sanjay Dutt’s life. It is about a man who made too many bad choices. Also there seems to be some justification for the same. It works as a movie.

Also there is a thin life between reel life and real life. Especially, when Munna Bhai M.B.B.S scenes comes up.Ranbir almost becomes Sanju and one can’t differentiate. Rajkumar Hirani has done a good job with this biopic. It is nice that all his movies have struck a chord with audience and have done well.

Agreed, many pages from the actor’s life is missing here. But nevertheless, this biopic makes an interesting one time watch. My rating is 4/5.

Luka Chuppi (2019) Hindi Movie Review:

This one is a situational comedy about a boy Guddu (Karthik Aaryan) who meets Rashmi ( Kriti Sanon) and they both fall in love. The boy wants to marry the girl. However, the girl wants to try living-in with the boy before settling down for marriage. This isn’t possible in a small town Mathura. Hence, they move out with friend’s help to another town to expirement live-in for a month.

The best thing about this movie is that there isn’t a dull moment. As a debutant, director Laxman Utekar has done a fine job with a bunch of characters in unusual situations. Karthik and Kriti are awesome in their roles. While Aparshakti Khurana plays the supportive friend Abbas and he along with Pankaj Tripathi are a treat to watch in funny moments.

The best part of ‘Luka Chuppi’ is the fine writing by Rohan Ghoge and its wonderful execution by Laxman. The other best thing about this movie is that it is a fun ride that makes you to laugh with its funny moments in serious situations. The movie doesn’t become serious and preachy. It ends on a good note.

Highly recommended. My rating is 3.5/5.

Badla (2019) Hindi Movie Review:

I was curious to see how Sujoy Ghosh would adapt The Invisible Guest, one of the best Spanish Thrillers. The only significant change that is made in the Hindi version is change of genders. So, Amitabh Bachchan and Tapsee find place in this movie. That is a major plus point. However, I feel the title is the major spoil sport for a thriller like this one. In most of the cases the originality is lost in the translation.

That is not a case here. Badla sets a perfect example of how to remake a movie. I am sure that those who haven’t watched the original Spanish would be thrilled with its suspense and the major plot twist in the climax, like I did while watchingThe Invisible Guest.

Badla scores on many aspects like thrillers should be fast paced, crisply edited and a tight screen play. The other best part is its dailogues and background score. The references to Mahabharata is a good thing. The cinematography makes this movie look beautiful.

The plot mainly revolves around two characters Mr.Bachchan and Tapsee. Sujoy made a perfect choice by casting them in this movie. They both are amazing in their individual roles. The way Tapsee’s character changes various shades like a chameleon is wonderful. However, Amrita Singh’s character is well done and she shines in this role. Malayalam actor Tony Luke, who is seen for the first time in a hindi movie has a convincing role and fits his role perfectly.

Nice that this one doesn’t have any songs which would have been speed breakers in a good thriller. All in all a good thriller re-made by Bollywood in recent times.

Highly recommended. My rating is 3.5/5.

D.I.Kim Stone Book#10: Dead Memories Review

This is the only series that has kept my interest for so long, I mean 10th book in this series and it is still awesome like the first one. It even gets better with each book. D.I.Kim Stone has the ability to shut her traumatic memories in sealed boxes in her memory, but someone has got access to a file from her past life and has started re-creating those traumatic memories and Kim has to stop that person before it is too late.
This one wasn’t predictable and as a matter of fact I went with Kim looking for that unknown person who hated her so much. In that way, the suspense was too good until the climax.
The D.I. Kim Stone series has been close to my heart for years now; and I eagerly wait for the next book to be released. In Dead Memories, DI Kim Stone must face her past in order to determine her future and to catch the killer.Kim has arrested many bad people, many have grudges, many had their lives changed due to this, who has the most hatred for her? Read this thriller to know.
I would suggest to start from Book#1 for those who haven’t read this series so far. My rating is 5/5. Highly recommended.

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (2019) Movie review:

Wow! What an inspiring and beautiful movie this one happened to be. Everyone should see this wonderful movie based on a true story. The plot is unique about a boy in Malawi helps his village by building a wind turbine after reading about them in a library book. The entire village is facing worst crisis without food, people are dying. The boy wants to go to school and study. His poor father isn’t able to pay the school fees.It does not hide the brutal realities of life, especially in a small village of Africa.

The first time director Ejiofor has done a very good job by giving heart and soul to a touching story. The acting, cinematography, the back ground score, the direction everything blends perfectly together. It isn’t easy to write and direct a movie and also act in it as well, Chiwetel Ejiofor has done it amazingly. Maxwell Simba who plays his son is perfect for the role. They both are wonderful fitted for the roles of father and son.

No other movie can get as real as this one. Also they put in more effort by adding the local language along with engligh in this movie. This one is one of the best movies on Netflix and give this movie a chance and I’m sure that you won’t be dissappointed and also will be moved and inspired.

My rating is 5/5. Highly Recommended.
